SNY: Yankees' 2016 draft selections buck recent organizational trends

The Yankees' front office and scouting department often receives criticism for their handling of amateur drafts and the farm system. And it is true that many of their first round picks have failed to amount to much on the major league diamond over the years. But of late, the Yankees have managed to accrue significant talent from later rounds of the draft.

This year's draft broke a chain of the Yankees selecting college pitchers with their first pick of the draft, when they had high school outfielder Blake Rutherford slide down to them at pick No. 18.
