SNY: Yankees minor league report -- May 27, 2016

The New York Yankees experienced a bit of a resurgence over the last two weeks. Has that performance filtered down to the minor league system? Let us check to see what's happening with the Yankees affiliates.

Class A - South Atlantic League - Charleston RiverDogs

Record: 30-16, 1st place, Southern Division

The RiverDogs continue to outpace the rest of the league, opening up a five and a half game lead in their division.

Left-hander Nester Cortes won the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week award for the period May 16-22 with a no run, 12-strikeout performance in six innings of work. Cortes owns a 2-0 record and a 1.06 ERA in three starts for the RiverDogs.

At the plate, first baseman Chris Gittens leads the club with five home runs (tied with three teammates) and 24 RBIs. Gittens has also drawn a team-leading 26 walks, but unfortunately tops the club with a whopping 54 strikeouts in 167 plate appearances.
